Choosing poster paper: gloss, matte silk, bristol and canvas

The same image feels completely different on different papers. Which material should you choose for campaigns, art posters and photos?

In poster printing, the paper is part of the image. Its sheen, weight and texture directly shape how colors and contrast are perceived.

Gloss paper

150–170 g gloss paper, with vivid colors and an affordable price, is the most common choice for campaign, event and in-store posters. Its shiny surface can reflect light, so keep that in mind for brightly lit walls.

Matte silk

Matte silk does not reflect and shows colors in a softer, calmer way. It is ideal for illustrations, typographic posters and art posters that will be framed.

Bristol board

300–350 g bristol is thick and sturdy, suitable for posters that stand on their own, collectible editions or long-term use. It feels high quality in the hand.

Photo paper and canvas

For photographs, gloss or satin photo paper gives the best shadow detail. For a painting effect, canvas can hang on the wall without a frame.

If you are not sure which material suits your work, choose "Not sure" in the quote form and we will recommend one based on where it will be used.
